Program Overview

The Master of Science in Educational Leadership program from Barry University is designed for educators who want to pursue leadership opportunities both in state and out of state in private, charter, or parochial schools. This 100 percent online program, taught by the same distinguished faculty who teach on campus, will give you the knowledge and professional skill sets you need to become a professional leader.
In the accelerated online program, you will learn how to make ethically sound decisions in the planning, recruitment, selection, retention, evaluation, and termination processes within the school environment.
You will also explore models and theories of organizational development; study instructional design, measurement, and evaluation; and examine the policies, practices, and strategies of school and community relations.
The program has a practicum* embedded into the curriculum and can be completed in as few as 12 months.
The online MS Ed Leader program is aligned with the core commitments of the University. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

*The EDU 697 Practicum in Educational Leadership course is required for students who seek the Educational Leadership degree without certification. Practicum students are also required to design and implement a project to address an administrative or student achievement need at the school site, but the practicum project must also have a service learning component. Students in the practicum course are required to observe at different school sites, participate in community service, and incorporate the service with the project activities that are designed for students. A total of 60 hours of service, observation, and leadership activities are required for completion of this course. A portfolio must be developed and submitted by the student as documentation of the completed project and service learning requirement. A University supervisor is assigned to each intern to be a mentor and facilitator with the school site administrator.
Note: Students participating in the MS Educational Leadership with Certification who reside out of state, must check with their home state Department of Education for acceptance and/or transfer. Barry University does not guarantee Certification acceptance in any state other than the state of Florida. This program option does not offer Florida certification for school administrators. Courses
In order to earn the Master of Science in Educational Leadership online, students must complete 12 courses for a total of 36 credits. All courses are seven weeks in length.

Admissions
Students entering the Master of Science in Educational Leadership online program must hold a baccalaureate degree with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. If the student's GPA falls below a 3.0, a GRE may be required.

Tuition
Students in the Master of Science in Educational Leadership online program can pay for each course as they enroll. There is a $30 application fee, but all other fees are included in the total cost of tuition.

EDR 601: Methodology of Research
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course explores major research designs and methods emphasizing underlying assumptions, inquiry aims, participant selection, data collection and analysis, interpretation of findings, conclusions, and reporting.
EDU 614: Visionary Leadership in Education
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course explores models and theories of organizational development and their application to the development and maintenance of educational organizations.
EDU 615: Ethics and Communication for Leaders
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course develops student communication skills, an understanding of leadership ethics and an understanding of the behavior of people who work and live within organizations.
EDU 623: School and Community Relations
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course examines the policies, practices, and strategies in school and community relations.
EDU 624: Instructional Design, Measurement, and Evaluation
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course surveys the field of curriculum theory and organizational frameworks for current practices in curriculum development and evaluation and exploration of curriculum revision and change.
EDU 637: Educational Decision Making
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course explores the principal's roles and responsibilities as related to organizational development, information systems, faculty and staff selection, orientation, supervision and evaluation, curriculum development, implementation, scheduling, budgeting, and plant/facilities use.
EDU 662: Leadership for Assessment and Accountability
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course provides a broad overview of the field of data-driven teaching and learning Students will also analyze the leadership qualities needed to transform educational environments through the constructive, meaningful development and implementation of assessment practices and data evaluation.
EDU 674: The Legal Environment in Education
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course examines federal and state education laws, with particular emphasis on Florida school law.

This course examines school finance and school business management, with particular emphasis on procedures for Florida public and private schools.
EDU 676: School Personnel Administration and Development
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course is designed to introduce students to the field of school personnel administration by providing an in-depth look at topics students will utilize within a school setting. This course encourages reflective thinking that will assist students in making ethically sound decisions in the planning, recruitment, selection, retention, evaluation, and termination processes within the school environment.
EDU 687: Emerging Technologies and Educational Leadership
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course prepares the student to apply technology to the areas of administration and instruction in educational institutions.
EDU 697: Practicum in Educational Leadership+
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
Required for students seeking a graduate degree in Educational Leadership without certification. This course is a culminating experience that addresses and assures demonstration of the Principal Leadership Standards as well as competencies and skills needed for successful leadership in private and parochial education. This course provides an opportunity for each candidate to engage in extensive research, utilize a problem-solving process, collaborate with peers and supervisors, and apply theory to formulate a plan for school improvement. Completion of this course will provide the Educational Leadership student with the opportunity to bring about a significant, research-based improvement in the area of curriculum, school procedures, community partnerships, assessment, communication, technology, and/or professional development.

MS Ed Leader Online Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- No Teaching Certificate required
- 2 years teaching experience (or related work experience)
- No GRE/MAT required
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Applicants whose cumulative GPA is under 3.0 may be provisionally admitted to the program. To be fully admitted to the program, the student must attain a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 by the end of the provisional period determined by the program director.*
