In this accelerated online emergency management program, which incorporates coursework from public administration, management, health sciences, psychology, sociology, criminal justice and environmental sciences, you will learn to plan, coordinate, and make high-level decisions.
Students will also complete a capstone course, designed as an opportunity for students to integrate and synthesize the theories, techniques and management practices acquired during the program.
We offer a generous transfer credit policy—up to 90 college credits may be transferred. There are also multiple options to earn up to 90 credits toward the 120 required for graduation through professional licenses and certifications, testing, nontraditional transfer credit and the optional Experiential Learning Portfolio.

As an applicant for the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management online, you must submit transcripts indicating graduation from a regionally accredited high school as well as official transcripts from any colleges attended. You must also have at least 2 years of work experience or be an active military member or veteran.
Admission Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age
- 2 years of work experience unless a military applicant
- Professional resume with two references
- Official transcripts from all accredited colleges/universities attended
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
- Official transcripts from any accredited colleges attended
- If fewer than 12 college credits have been earned, official transcript indicating graduation from a regionally accredited high school, or GED
- A resume with 2 references listed and reflecting at least 2 years of full time work experience
- There is no minimum years of service or work experience for military applicants
- Official transcripts from all accredited colleges/universities attended should be mailed directly from the institution(s) to Barry:
You can submit your transcripts in PDF or other image file format to Barry University through your myBarry account or by having your high school or college email directly to [email protected]. We will use them to provide you with a provisional admissions decision. However, transcripts sent by you are considered unofficial.

The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management online curriculum consists of a total of 120 credits—30 hours of emergency management curriculum, 12 hours of major-related electives, 45 hours of distribution (general education) requirements, and a variable number of other electives. Credits may also be awarded for traditional and non-traditional transfer credits, licensure/certification, and testing. All courses are seven weeks in length. Students should consult with their academic advisor to create their individual degree plan and to answer any questions about required, elective, and transfer credits.
Major Elective Courses
Students must take 12 elective credits from ADM, EMA, and/or PUB.
Distribution Courses
To graduate, students must have 45 distribution (general education) credits. You must have 9 credits in each of the following categories:
- Theology and Philosophy
- Written and Oral Communication
- Science and Mathematics
- Social and Behavioral Sciences
- Humanities and Arts
Electives
The number of elective credits required is variable, depending on previous transfer credits, advisement, and individual student degree plan.
Experiential Learning Portfolio
The portfolio is optional for the BSEM online program and can count for up to 30 credits. Students will work with their academic advisor throughout the development of the portfolio. The portfolio is a vehicle through which students can demonstrate college-level learning in order to receive credit for professional work experience and/or community service in one or more of the following categories: administration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, interpersonal relations, investigation and research, leadership and supervision.
