Career Highlights:

Dr. Bragg comes to Barry University from Texas A&M International University where she was an assistant professor of Public Administration and Nonprofit Management. While at Texas A&M International, she developed and implemented the postgraduate certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management. At Barry University, she has recently developed a new track in the MPA program, a specialization in nonprofit administration. Her teaching and research interests include nonprofit organizations, nonprofit management, volunteer management, human resources, nonprofit resource development, program evaluation and program development, policy analysis, public affairs and ethics, and cross-sector governance. Dr. Bragg has written articles and presented papers annually at national and international public and nonprofit administration conferences since 2010.

Dr. Bragg is a prior nonprofit sector professional working for over 10 years in the areas of volunteer management, financial development, and executive leadership. In 2006 she was named to the Pensacola Business Journal’s “40Under40.” The Pensacola Business Journal’s “40Under40” was an annual listing of young business and community leaders committed to professional excellence and community involvement in Pensacola, Florida.

  • What do you want students to take away from your courses?

    Nelson Mandela is credited with saying that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I aim for students to develop a love of lifelong learning, and I believe this passion for learning will make a difference.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I was a nonprofit professional for over 10 years before earning my PhD in Public Affairs, Public Administration Track. I reached a point in my nonprofit career where I wanted to share my knowledge and experiences with others who were either just starting their career in the public sector or were seeking to advance their careers. The path for me to reach this goal was to obtain my PhD and to teach at a university. I have always felt that education is the path to changing one’s life. Through my teaching, I am afforded the opportunity to equip people with the ability to change their lives. I am rewarded everyday with my students' success.

  • What advice would you give to students considering an online public administration programs?

    While online programs in general require successful students to be very self-motivated, the online programs at Barry University are unique in that students have a very strong support system not only in their highly-dedicated and professionally-qualified faculty, but also in a very engaged personal advisor. The fast pace of these programs may seem a bit daunting, but with some inherent self-motivation and the strong support from faculty and advisors that want to see every student succeed, you will see your-self with a completed degree in a very short time.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in public administration face today?

    The biggest challenge public administrators face today is how to create innovative solutions for growing community problems in a polarized society.
