About Barry University

A Higher Education Experience That Inspires Change

Located in Miami, Florida, Barry University was originally founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters as Barry College for Women. Barry has since grown into a coeducational university that is one of the leading centers for education in South Florida.

The Barry community includes almost 7,500 students from 80 countries and nearly all 50 U.S. states; 60,000 alumni worldwide; and 2,000 faculty and staff members. The University is comprised of the 122-acre main campus in Miami and the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law campus in Orlando as well as satellite sites in eight Florida counties, the Bahamas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Grounded in the liberal arts tradition, Barry is committed to the highest academic standards in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The University offers over 100 degree programs within eight colleges and schools in the areas of arts and sciences, business, education, nursing and health sciences, law, podiatric medicine, and social work.

Our students gain hands-on experience with local and global organizations not only to prepare to advance their careers—they also learn to make the world a better place. Barry uses service learning to engage students with real-world issues and encourage them to find solutions. In fact, Barry has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll since 2012, with students participating in more than 25,000 service hours each year.
