A growing number of students are realizing the benefits of earning a degree online. A 2015 Learning House survey found that 61 percent of online students were enrolled full time while 39 percent were enrolled part time.
Barry University’s online Master of Science in Educational Leadership program, consisting of 12 seven-week courses totaling 36 credit, can be completed in as little as one year. Barry University offers six start dates throughout the year. The program prepares educators for leadership positions in private and public schools throughout the United States. The online graduate degree program is taught by Barry University faculty. Courses cover school finance, leadership, staff recruitment, evaluation tools and more, with the goal of teaching ethically sound leadership skills.
Online students can expect to study six hours per week for every course credit, according to U.S. News & World Report. For a student taking two 3-credit courses per session, that amounts to 36 hours of study time per week.
Earning a graduate degree online in one year is considered “difficult” – but attainable – for full-time and part-time employees, according to Grad School Hub. A 2017 article in U.S. News & World Report states that while accelerated learning isn’t for everyone, it can be a fit for anyone who is “motivated and skilled at time management.”
“Time management and self-motivation will be especially important if you balance your studies with personal responsibilities and work,” the article continued. “Being aware of common time management mistakes and brushing up on tips can boost your likelihood of success.”
One benefit of accelerated online courses, the article noted, is the ability to focus on new subjects while spending less time on subjects that are already familiar. Before choosing the fast track as an online student, carefully consider your obligations outside of the classroom, desired graduation timelines, and the potential impact on tuition and financial aid.
While earning a degree online in one year comes with time-management challenges, many are finding that the benefits outweigh the costs. A graduate degree in educational leadership is typically required for promotion to positions like assistant principal, principal, and school district administrator.
Whichever career path you choose, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Barry University can turn your one-year commitment to earning the degree into a fast track to new career possibilities.
